En este artículo se pretende abordar la evolución del papel del espacio, en el contexto geopolítico actual, desde su concepción tradicional de alto valor estratégico para la ciencia y la investigación, al actual concepto como elemento clave en el uso sostenible del espacio y su protección en beneficio de toda la sociedad, frente a una creciente aparición de amenazas y dentro de un carente marco regulatorio que facilite su neutralización con medidas coercitivas basadas en leyes o reglamentos.

This article aims to address the evolution of the role of space, in the current political context, from its traditional conception of high strategic value for science and research, to the current concept as a key element in the sustainable use of space and its protection for the benefit of society as a whole, in the face of an increasing emergence of threats and in the absence of a regulatory framework that can neutralise them by coercive measures based on laws or regulations.
