Resumen de José de Egon Wolff: el retorno de un emigrado inconformista

En José (1980) el chileno Egon Wolff inventa una fábula dramática en que el protagonista, un joven de 21 años, idealista y formado durante la democracia, vuelve a Chile luego de haber emigrado a Estados Unidos. Dado que la censura no le permite tratar abiertamente la cuestión, da una sutil alusión a la dictadura militar para situar el contexto. Todos los indicios que entrega el autor se refieren más bien al modelo neo-liberal vigente, que sitúa el provecho material en la base del sistema social. El objetivo central del autor es cuestionar el nuevo modelo social impuesto por la dictadura de Pinochet.

In his play José (1980) the Chilean Egon Wolff draws up a dramatic fable where his main character, an idealist young man educated during the democratic period, comes back to Chile after a long stay in the United States. Due to censorship, there is a very subtle allusion to the military dictatorship. Most of the criticism is geared towards the neo-liberal model set up by the Pinochet government, focusing on material profit in detriment of social welfare.
