  • Mathematics is one of the most important subjects in the educational field, since it develops the logical and intellectual thinking of students. Although math is a core subject for schools and high school institutions, difficulties are notable in this area; the percentage of failure is high due to many internal and external factors to the student's environment, consequently students might have a perception of apathy towards the subject. Therefore, this research analyses the impact of introducing gamification methods to increase the meaningful learning in mathematics through activities carried out using technological tools, transmitting motivation as well as dynamism. Students taking a mathematics course from the ninth grade at an Ecuadorian school were selected as a case study to identify the learning and performance deficit in math. Surveys to students and academics were applied and analyzed. As a result, gamification methods definitely capture interest because of their appearance, it is worth mentioning that it triggers emotions and rewarding experiences, in addition to a self-directed learning environment, adapting to the needs of the students.
