    A partir de una revisión y análisis bibliográfico, las autoras presentan desde dos perspectivas: la tecnológica y la ambiental, el desarrollo que ha tenido uno de los materiales que se ha vuelto más común e importante en nuestros días, el plástico. Este artículo pretende mostrar como, históricamente, este material se ha convertido en uno de los materiales mas versátiles y empleados en la era actual, gracias a sus características y propiedades y en una segunda entrega presentará, como al mismo tiempo, ha llegado a ser uno de los generadores de problemas ambientales más importantes y revisará las alternativas que se están planteando para su manejo ambiental específicamente.

    From a revision and bibliographical analysis, the authors present from two perspective, the technological and the environmental one, the development of one material that have become one of the commonest and most important in our days, the plastic.
