El territorio como constructo social refleja los cambios que se han ido sucediendo a lo largo de la historia desde múltiples ópticas, ambiental, política, económica, funcional, etc. En este sentido, este trabajo, pretende recopilar algunos de los diagnósticos más certeros extraídos de los numerosos artículos e investigaciones llevadas a cabo por el profesor Miguel Ángel Troitiño y el grupo de investigación del que fue director, “Turismo, Patrimonio y Desarrollo”. En las últimas décadas, son muchos los autores que han asimilado al territorio su condición de patrimonio, al ser el resultado de estructuras e interrelaciones entre factores naturales, económicos, sociales y culturales. Son precisamente estas conexiones las que han favorecido y han dado sentido a los denominados sistemas territoriales patrimoniales (Troitiño, 2008; Albarrán, 2020; Ortega, 1998). Derivada de la dinámica económica y evidente en los cambios estructurales de los territorios es incuestionable el protagonismo adquirido por el turismo, con efectos de signo diverso a nivel morfológico, social y paisajístico. Determinar sus implicaciones en el territorio requiere enfoques integrales y multidisciplinares de una gestión basada en la buena gobernanza y los principios del desarrollo sostenible. Todo ello plantea nuevos desafíos para hallar el equilibrio entre el desarrollo económico y la preservación, siendo indispensable la integración de las dimensiones funcionales y el análisis y consideración, con rigor, de las capacidades de acogida para los diferentes usos y actividades, orientando y controlando, de forma sostenible, los procesos de cambio, fijando, si fuera preciso, límites. De esta forma, se concluye que puede ser más factible encontrar respuestas a las problemáticas relacionadas con la integración de las actuaciones y las prácticas sociales del turismo

The territory as a social construct reflects the changes that have been happening throughout history from multiple perspectives: environmental, political, economic, functional, etc. In this sense, this work aims to compile some of the most accurate diagnoses extracted from the numerous articles and investigations carried out by Professor Miguel Ángel Troitiño and the research group of which he was director, “Tourism, Heritage and Development”. In recent decades, many authors have assimilated the territory’s heritage status, as it is the result of structures and interrelationships between natural, economic, social and cultural factors. It is precisely these connections that have favored and given meaning to the so-called patrimonial territorial systems (Troitiño, 2008; Albarrán, 2020;
Ortega, 1998). Derived from the economic dynamics and evident in the structural changes of the territories, the leading role acquired by tourism is unquestionable, with diverse effects at the morphological, social and landscape levels. Determining its implications in the territory requires comprehensive and multidisciplinary management approaches based on good governance and the principles of sustainable development. All this poses new challenges to find the balance between economic development and preservation, being essential the integration of the functional dimensions and the rigorous analysis and consideration of the reception capacities for the different uses and activities, guiding and controlling, in a sustainable way, the processes of change, setting, if necessary, limits. In this way, it is concluded that it may be more feasible to find answers to the problems related to the integration of actions and social practices of tourism
