The arrival of the Journal at a milestone of publishing its 100th volume presents the opportunity to consider how it has helped shape and document the historical development of the teaching and learning of chemistry. A series of Virtual Issues (VIs) will be curated throughout the year to explore both archival and current articles describing educational innovation over the past century. The first such VI on the topic of teaching and learning analytical chemistry is described as a template for this project celebrating the 100th year of the Journal of Chemical Education.
