El uso de la ventilación mecánica aplicada al paciente mediante interfases o mascarillas de diferentes tipos puede generar lesiones por presión que surgen la mayoría de las veces por una mala elección de las mismas. En busca de conseguir reducir la fuga ventilatoria se ejerce más presión sobre las prominencias faciales del paciente que podría evitarse si se variara el tipo de interfase más acorde según forma o talla. Aunque existen en el mercado variedad de opciones de interfases, en caso de no dar con ninguna que ajustara a nuestro paciente, las rotaciones de distintos tipos a lo largo del día también se recomiendan para para variar la presión sobre las zonas más dañadas.

The use of mechanical ventilation applied to the patient through interfaces or masks of different types, can generate pressure injuries that arise most of the time due to a poor choice of them. In order to achieve a reduction in ventilatory leakage, more pressure is exerted on the patient’s facial prominences, which could be avoided if the most appropriate type of interface were varied according to shape or size. Although there are a variety of interface options on the market, in the event of not finding any that fit our patient, rotations of different types throughout the day are also recommended to vary the pressure on the most damaged areas.
