  El Síndrome de Duane (SD) corresponde a una alteración en la motilidad ocular, caracterizada por la retracción del globo ocular y el estrechamiento de la hendidura palpebral con la aducción; puede ir asociada a la restricción de la abducción, aducción o ambas. Conocido también como síndrome de Retracción Congénita o Síndrome de Stilling-Turk-Duane.

  Para un correcto diagnóstico, es básico realizar una adecuada historia clínica del paciente, junto con una minuciosa exploración física, neurológica y oftalmológica, que ayuden a orientar las pruebas complementarias.

  Actualmente no existe un tratamiento eficaz, sólo es posible mejorar, quirúrgicamente, el aspecto estético de estos pacientes.

  Duane Syndrome (DS) is an ocular motility disorder characterized by retraction of the eyeball and narrowing of the palpebral fissure with adduction; it may be associated with restriction of abduction, adduction or both. Also known as Congenital Retraction Syndrome or Stilling-Turk-Duane Syndrome.

  For a correct diagnosis, it is essential to take a proper clinical history of the patient, together with a thorough physical, neurological and ophthalmological examination, which will help to guide the complementary tests.

  There is currently no effective treatment; it is only possible to surgically improve the aesthetic appearance of these patients.
