    En este artículo damos a conocer la historia de este edificio de Villanueva del Arzobispo, desde que lo adquirió el obispado de Jaén en el siglo XVII, hasta su venta que se produjo en el siglo XIX. El artículo está dividido en diferentes apartados: Consideraciones generales; obras en el edificio; la Tercia en la Guerra de la Independencia; la plaga de la langosta; algunos conflictos más relacionados con el edificio y, por último, el apartado dedicado a su desaparición.

    In this article we present the history of this building in Villanueva del Arzobispo, since it was acquired by the bishopric of Jaén in the 17th century, until its sale in the 19th century. The article is divided into several sections: General considerations; works in the Tercia building in the war of independence; the locust plague and other natural calamities or some conflicts related to the Tercia (grain and wheat warehouse).

    The Jewish community of Úbeda was located, doubtlessly, within the walled enclosure known as the Alcázar. Although we don’t know the exact place of their settlement, we tried to define the exact boundaries of the Jewish quarter, from the existing documents and making some inferences from the defensive needs required to protect efficiently its inhabitants. We should not ignore that in the Middle Ages, Jewish and their properties were considered part of the Royal treasury.
