Este artigo apresenta o desenvolvimento e impacto dos antiquaristas dezenovecentistas manx nas representações e reflexões sobre as cruzes de pedra da Ilha de Man, principalmente aquelas que possivelmente dispõem o heroi semilegendário escandinavo Sigurðr Fáfnisbani. Meu intuito foi expor as fragilidades argumentativas e, além disso, o longevo impacto de tais idéias na erudição dos séculos.

This article presents the development and impact of Manx antiquarians (XIXth century) on the representations and reflections about the stone crosses of the Isle of Man, mainly those that probably are references of the semi-legendary hero Sigurðr Fáfnisbani. My purpose was to expose the argumentative fragilities and, furthermore, the extended impact of these ideas in the erudition of the XXth and XXIth centuries.
