    Este artículo trata el tema de la representación y delegación de poderes en el mundo laico. Para tal efecto, se concentra en el estudio del mandato, que es el mecanismo jurídico que permite delegar el poder y efectuar la representación. Como ejemplo, se estudia el caso del ducado de Borgoña durante el siglo XIII y se intenta develar el funcionamiento del mandato en el ejercicio de gobierno de los duques.

    This article is concerned with the subject of representation and delegation of power in the lay world during the Middle Ages. It is centered on the study of the mandate (lat. mandatum), which is the legal mechanism that effects both delegation of power and legal representation. As an example, this paper studies the duchy of Burgundy during the 13th century, focusing on clarifying the role the mandate played in the exercise of ducal governance.
