    The Modern Art Week, held in February 1922, in São Paulo, continues to be a reference for aesthetic reflections and for art criticism in Brazil, one hundred years after the event. We can consider the event as a kind of founding discourse of the Brazilian modernist movement, because even if we identify different readings of modernity and different modernisms, and even if we recognize the excluding and unrepresentative character of the national art exhibited there, the date was marked as the beginning of the process of updating Brazilian art. We consider as an immediate effect of the festival the scandal strategy and the radical discourse of rupture with the past and the strong presence of humor, which becomes the language with which other paths were tried, for our artistic expression..

    A Semana de Arte Moderna, realizada em fevereiro de 1922, em São Paulo, continua sendo referência para reflexões estéticas e para a crítica de arte do Brasil, passados cem anos do evento. Podemos considerar o evento como uma espécie de discurso fundador do movimento modernista brasileiro, pois mesmo que identifiquemos diferentes leituras da modernidade e diferentes modernismos, e ainda que reconheçamos o caráter excludente e pouco representativo da arte nacional ali exposta, a data ficou marcada como o início do processo de atualização da arte brasileira. Consideramos como efeito imediato do festival a estratégia do escândalo e o discurso radical de ruptura com o passado e a forte presença do humor, que passa a ser a linguagem com a qual se tentou outros caminhos, para nossa expressão artística.
