Resumen de Frontera México-Estados Unidos: un acercamiento a sus dinámicas de flujos

  A lo largo de la historia el tema de las relaciones entre México y Estados Unidos siempre ha sido importante. Las relaciones de los países a partir de las interacciones de fronteras han cobrado relevancia con la globalización. El presente estudio analiza la frontera México-Estados Unidos desde la vertiente de relación de flujos de personas, transporte, comercio e inversión. La metodología es de tipo cuantitativa, empleando el análisis de datos procedentes del Department of Transportation (Estados Unidos), Instituto Nacional de Geografía y Estadística (México) y Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores (México); también es cualitativa, por cuanto recurre a información documental especialmente artículos científicos y libros. Los resultados muestran que los flujos se han intensificado con la integración económica y que, a pesar de los altibajos en cooperación y demás obstáculos, aquéllos siguen adelante. El trabajo es pertinente dada la coyuntura actual de transición de gobierno en Estados Unidos y revisión de temas centrales de la agenda bilateral, explorando los flujos de forma integrada. Se concluye en la necesidad de superar tales coyunturas a fin de alcanzar las metas que cada gobierno y agentes participantes tienen fijadas.   Throughout history the issue of relations between Mexico and the United States has always been important. The relations of the countries from the interactions of borders have gained relevance with globalization. This study analyzes the United States-Mexico border from the perspective of the flow of people, transportation, trade, and investment. The methodology is quantitative, using the analysis of data from the Department of Transportation (United States), the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Mexico) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mexico); It is also qualitative, since it uses documentary information, especially scientific articles and books. The results show that the flows have intensified with economic integration and that, despite the ups and downs in cooperation and other obstacles, they continue. The work is pertinent given the current situation of government transition in the United States and review of central issues on the bilateral agenda, exploring the flows in an integrated manner. It is concluded that it is necessary to overcome such situations in order to achieve the goals that each government and participating agents have set. Progress in the bilateral agenda implies a willingness to cooperate from both governments and participants.
