César Domínguez rompe un tanto los esquemas rígidos de estructuración de la literatura medieval francesa y con su libro logra hacer entender al lector los procesos de creación y recepción de esta literatura. Se centra en la materia, algo a lo que no se le había dado demasiado protagonismo en este contexto hasta ahora. Desarrolla el concepto de materia en dos fases: la principal y la secundaria, y afirma que parte de la invención. En su libro, Domínguez repasa otros términos relacionados, como dispositio, elocutio, thema, archetypus, etc., y cada capítulo desglosa la importancia de estos y de la materia dentro de la literatura medieval gala hasta reunir todos los argumentos en el final del libro.

César Domínguez somewhat breaks the rigid structuring schemes of French medieval literature and with his book manages to make the reader understand the processes of creation and reception of this literature. He focuses on matter, something that hasn't been given much prominence in this context until now. He develops the concept of matter in two phases: the main and the secondary, and affirms that it is part of the invention. In his book, Domínguez reviews other related terms, such as dispositio, elocutio, thema, archetypus, etc., and each chapter breaks down the importance of these and of the subject within Gallic medieval literature until all the arguments are gathered at the end from the book.
