Internet has reconditioned the connection between people, in such a way that talking about interaction shows the presence of technologies between us and others. In these media we characterize and define from our presence including who we are. This document reviews the link between identity and culture, and the way in which social networks modify that relationship. It is proposed to analyze three aspects:
the representations that make up the networks as identity construction mechanisms; the expression of identity on the Internet and finally the presentation through the digital self-portrait.
The central objective is to describe and analyze the links between self-image and its expression in digital media and how contemporary identity is modified. From theoretical explorations related to empirical studies we propose conclusions about contemporary identity through the presentation of the “self”, framed in the online or digital context
