    La reanimación usando el balón resucitador, puede parecer una intervención banal, debido a la creencia de que únicamente se debe apretar por el centro del balón a una carencia determinada, e intentar ajustar y sellar lo mejor posible la mascarilla al paciente para conseguir introducir la mayor cantidad de aire posible en los pulmones. A simple vista parece una intervención muy simple y sin complicaciones, pero nada más lejos de la realidad, ya que un uso inadecuado de esta herramienta de trabajo, puede suponer un aporte deficiente de aire y oxígeno al paciente, situación que si se prolonga en el tiempo puede suponer la diferencia entre la vida y la muerte del mismo. Es por éste motivo, y debido a que nuestra profesión no es solo asistencial sino también docente, que se objetivó la diferencia de volúmenes al ventilar a los maniquíes de formación en diferentes cursos, donde veíamos que en ocasiones el tórax del maniquí se expandía mucho frente a otras situaciones en las que apenas se movía, lo que nos hizo darnos cuenta de la importancia de hacer un estudio al respecto que revelase la existencia de variabilidad asistencial, y poder determinar a qué factores se debía esa variabilidad y como reducirla. Para ello tuvimos que enfocar nuestra atención en las hipótesis que suponíamos causaban esta variabilidad, y después desarrollamos instrumentos que nos permitieran hacer mediciones de forma fiable y que nos dieran la posibilidad de demostrar con datos tangibles los resultados que se describen a continuación en este estudio.

    Resuscitation using the resuscitation balloon may seem like a banal intervention, due to the belief that one should only squeeze the center of the balloon to a certain gap, and try to adjust and seal the mask to the patient as well as possible to achieve the greatest possible insertion of air in the lungs. At first glance, it seems a very simple and uncomplicated intervention, but nothing is further from reality, since improper use of this work tool can result in a deficient supply of air and oxygen to the patient, a situation that if prolonged in the time can mean the difference between life and death. It is for this reason, and because our profession is not only care but also teaching, that the difference in volumes was observed when ventilating the training mannequins in different courses, where we saw that sometimes the chest of the mannequin expanded a lot in front to other situations in which he was barely moving, which made us realize the importance of conducting a study in this regard that would reveal the existence of healthcare variability, and to be able to determine what factors caused this variability and how to reduce it. For this we had to focus our attention on the hypotheses that we assumed caused this variability, and then we developed instruments that would allow us to make measurements reliably and that would give us the possibility of demonstrating with tangible data the results that are described in this study below.
