    The purpose of this article is to investigate the iconography of the so-called Chigi Vase, with particular attention to the lion hunting scene depicted in the artifact. I will argue that lion hunting was depicted on the vase starting from oriental models, especially those of the Assyrian Empire. Finally, the article provides a historiographical balance on the Chigi Vase, showing how, over the last 20 years, the interpretations on the olpé have increasingly sought to connect the artifact's images into a cohesive whole.

    O objetivo deste artigo é investigar a iconografia do assim chamado Vaso Chigi, com particular atenção à cena de caça ao leão presente no artefato. Será argumentado que a cinegética leonina foi figurada no vaso a partir de modelos orientais, sobretudo assírios. O artigo, por fim, traz um balanço historiográfico a respeito do Vaso Chigi, mostrando como, ao longo dos últimos 20 anos, a interpretações sobre a olpé tem buscado cada vez mais conectar as imagens do artefato em um todo coeso.
