    The text analyzes the political and intellectual strifes that occurred in the decade of 1930, which had as axis the national linguistic unit and in which took part the articulators of Estado Novo, the literary critics and the social novelists, notably, Jorge Amado. The mapping of the texts produced over the theme, institutions, subjects and arguments involved reveals the tensions of a period in which the search for national identity occupied central place in political and cultural projects. It is concluded that, at that time, the uses of language dominated many of the political and esthetics choices

    O texto analisa as contendas políticas e intelectuais ocorridas na década de 1930, que tiveram como eixo a unidade linguística nacional e nas quais tomaram parte os articuladores do Estado Novo, os críticos literários e os romancistas sociais, notadamente, Jorge Amado. O mapeamento dos textos produzidos sobre tema, das instituições, sujeitos e argumentos envolvidos revela as tensões de um período em que a busca pela identidade nacional ocupava lugar central nos projetos políticos e culturais. Conclui-se que, naquele período, os usos da língua presidiam muitas das escolhas políticas e estéticas.
