Rumo ao Maranhão: teias migratórias e memória dividida

    This paper approaches the experiences of northeasters migrants in the central region of Maranhão, a Brazilian state, specially between 1930 and 1950, when the records show the most representative number of migrating men and women from the states of Piauí and Ceará. Through the data of marriages collected in parish register in the studied regionthe paper elaborates a toponymical chart of the spaces occupied by migrants, with names referring to water, abundance and hope for prosperity, the saints and other elements related to the nature of these spaces. Using interviews and oral history, the paper interprets the social memories of these migratory processes, pinpointing differences regarding the migrant’s places of origin and social origin, capable of establish objective and subjective reasons for the migration and diverse interpretations of these process as formulated and transmitted afterwards.

    Busca-se abordar a experiência de migrantes nordestinos na região central do estado do Maranhão, especialmente entre as décadas de 1930 e 1950, quando se registram os índices mais significativos da migração de homens e mulheres provenientes dos estados do Piauí e Ceará. A partir dos livros de casamento das paróquias da região estudada, elabora-se um mapeamento da toponímia dos espaços ocupados por migrantes, cujos nomes remetem à agua, à abundância e esperança de prosperidade, aos santos e santas e a elementos que constituem a natureza desses espaços. Através de entrevistas de História Oral busca-se interpretar as memórias sociais do processo migratório, demarcando-se diferenças em relação aos locais de procedência dos migrantes e à condição social, que estabelece razões objetivas e subjetivas da migração e interpretações distintas desse processo elaboradas e narradas a posteriori.
