  O artigo aborda a reconstrução do conjunto arquitetônico do Pátio Colégio e a tentativa do órgão de patrimônio estadual, o CONDEPHAAT, de impedir a continuidade das obras nos anos 1970, alegando que as obras destruiriam o sítio arqueológico para erguer o que considerava ser um pastiche sem qualquer valor histórico. Além de representar um grande impasse para as obras que se arrastavam desde 1954, a postura do CONDEPHAAT foi inédita ao criticar a reconstrução por razões preservacionistas. Desse modo, é objetivo desse artigo indicar como os novos parâmetros de preservação do patrimônio estaduais se tornaram incompatíveis com a reconstrução, assim como refazer o embate público em torno das obras e as diferentes razões dos atores socia

  The article approaches the reconstruction of the architectural complex of Pátio do Colégio and the attempt by state property body, CONDEPHAAT, to prevent the continuity of the works in the 1970s, claiming the works have destroyed the archaeological site in order to build what it considered to be a pastichewithout any historical value. Besides representing a great impasse over the works which dragged on since 1954, the CONDEPHAAT’s position was unprecedented by criticizing the reconstruction for preservationist reasons. Thereby, this article aims to indicate how the new parameters of the preservation of the state property have rendered it incompatible with the reconstruction, as well as approaching public clash around the works and different reasons for the social actors of whom have taken part
