Resumen de 'Ultramar' (siglos XVIII a XXI), un controvertido concepto

Este artículo es una reflexión sobre los problemas que presenta la inexactitud sistémica del sustantivo español ‘Ultramar’ desde el ámbito de la historia de la prensa y la imprenta. Se analiza la evolución del concepto formal y académico de este término en diccionarios oficiales desde el segundo tercio del siglo XVIII y su uso un tanto ambiguo o sobreentendido en la prensa de la segunda mitad del XIX, más su uso corriente en la literatura especializada desde los años 1990. Se plantean varias problemáticas en torno a metodología, fuentes disponibles y sus posibilidades de explotación lingüístico-literaria o histórica. Se apuntan algunas nuevas cuestiones de orden interpretativo, historiográfico y epistemológico.

This article is a reflection on the problems presented by the systemic inaccuracy of the Spanish term 'Ultramar' from the field of the history of the press and printing. The evolution of the formal and academic concept of this term in official dictionaries since the second third of the 18th century and its somewhat ambiguous or implied use in the press of the second half of the 19th century, plus its current use in specialized literature since the 19th century is analyzed. years 1990. Several problems are raised around methodology, available sources and their possibilities of linguistic-literary or historical exploitation. Some new questions of an interpretive, historiographical and epistemological order are pointed out.
