El valle Calchaquí se encuentra al oeste de la provincia de Salta, Argentina, regado por el río Calchaquí que, junto con sus afluentes, forma una cuenca que se extiende de norte a sur. En algunos de estos ríos existe presencia de boro (B). Se considera que niveles mayores de 05 mg L–1 producen suelos con toxicidad que limita la capacidad productiva. Estos suelos fueron evaluados con un índice de productividad (IP) y clasificados para su uso estableciéndose su clase. Este trabajo analiza la relación del boro en la estimación de ese índice de productividad. Se realizó una recopilación de datos, material bibliográfico publicado referente a la temática y un análisis exhaustivo. El resultado nos permite valorar y considerar todos los factores para la estimación de IP para indicar y clasificar el uso del suelo, teniendo en cuenta la contaminación por B que presentan algunas zonas arables del valle Calchaquí salteño.

The Calchaquí Valley is located to the west of the province of Salta, Argentina, watered by the Calchaquí River which, together with its tributaries, forms a basin that runs from north to south. Boron (B) is present in some of these rivers. It is considered that levels greater than 05 mg L–1 produce soils with toxicity that limits the productive capacity. These soils were evaluated with a productivity index (IP) and classified for their land use, establishing their use class. This work analyzes the relation of Boron in the estimation of this productivity index. A compilation of data, published and online bibliographic material referring to the subject and an exhaustive analysis was carried out. The result allows us to assess and consider all the factors for the estimation of IP to indicate and classify the use of the land, taking into account the contamination by B that some arable areas of the Calchaquí Salteño valley have.
