    Un catéter venoso central (CVC), un dispositivo que permite el acceso al torrente sanguíneo a nivel central con el fin de administrar medicamentos, fluidoterapia, nutrición parenteral total o para monitorización.

    En la actualidad el uso del catéter venoso central (CVC) se ha convertido en una práctica muy habitual a nivel mundial, sobre todo en aquellos pacientes con estancias hospitalarias prolongadas, estos, permiten y facilitan muchos de los procedimientos intrahospitalarios tales como colocación de catéter para plasmaféresis o hemodiálisis, colocación de filtros de vena cava inferior o en aquellos pacientes con accesos venosos periféricos inadecuados, que requieran medicación continua como quimioterapia, nutrición parenteral (NP) siendo también útil para monitoreo hemodinámico. La colocación de catéteres venosos centrales se ha convertido en los últimos años en una técnica muy útil en el manejo del paciente intrahospitalario, para combatir las posibles complicaciones que puedan aparecer la enfermería juega un papel muy importante, ya que es la encargada principal del manejo y mantenimiento de este tipo de vías.

    A central venous catheter (CVC), a device that allows access to the bloodstream at the central level for the purpose of administering medications, fluid therapy, total parenteral nutrition, or for monitoring.

    At present, the use of the central venous catheter (CVC) has become a very common practice worldwide, especially in those patients with prolonged hospital stays, these allow and facilitate many intrahospital procedures such as catheter placement for plasmapheresis or hemodialysis, placement of inferior vena cava filters or in those patients with inadequate peripheral venous access, who require continuous medication such as chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition (NP) being also useful for hemodynamic monitoring. The placement of central venous catheters has become a very useful technique in the management of intrahospital patients in recent years. Nursing plays a very important role in combating possible complications that may appear, since it is the main person in charge of managing and maintenance of this type of road.
