Portugal experienced a complex process of changes, when on April 25th, 1974, overthrew the authoritarian regime that had been in place since 1933. The establishment of a western democratic regime in Portugal was one option among the many possibilities that were on the table back then. From the conflicts between different political and military forces, several protagonists emerged. In this article we intended to follow this process by investigating the course of action of one of these protagonists, the head of the then newly founded Socialist Party, thus verifying how far his actions contributed and influenced the course of the country in 1975/1976.
Le Portugal a connu un complexe processus de changement après le 25 Avril 1974, quand le régime autoritaire en vigueur depuis 1933 a été renversé. L’établissement d’un régime démocratique de type occidental était seulement une des nombreuses possibilités qui se sont présentés. Dans les plusieurs conflits entre les diverses forces politiques et militaires, plusieurs protagonistes ont émergé. Dans cet article nous prétendons suivre ce processus examinant le cours de l’action d’un de ces protagonistes, le secrétaire général du nouveau Partido Socialista, vérifiant ainsi dans quelle mesure ses actions ont contribué et influencé le cours du pays en 1975/1976.
Portugal viveu um complexo processo de mudança quando em Abril de 1974 foi derrubado o regime autoritário vigente desde 1933. A opção por um regime democrático de tipo ocidental era apenas uma das várias que então se abriram. Dos confrontos entre as diversas forças políticas e militares emergiram vários actores. Neste artigo acompanhamos este processo seguindo as acções de um desses actores, o líder do recém-criado Partido Socialista e desse modo verificar até que ponto as suas acções contribuíram e influenciaram o rumo adoptado pelo país em 1975/1976.
