    Cet article propose une étude biographique sur Maia Magalhães en analysant sa participation à la campagne du sud de l’Angola et dans l’organisation du C.E.P. (Corps Expéditionnaire Portugais) au cours de la Grande Guerre, bien comme sa participation ultérieure dans le mouvement militaire qui a fait tomber la Nouvelle République et a vaincu la Monarchie du Nord. Maia Magalhães était membre de l’élite militaire, lié au Parti Démocratique (PRP). L’étude de son parcours permet de comprendre les réseaux d’influence et de rupture entre l’appareil militaire et les pouvoirs politiques en place entre 1916 et 1919. Comme sources, on détache la correspondance privée de Maia Magalhães durant cette période.

    Apresenta-se um estudo biográfico sobre Maia Magalhães, analisando a sua participação na Campanha do Sul de Angola e na organização do CEP durante a Grande Guerra, assim como o seu subsequente envolvimento no movimento militar que derrubou a República Nova e sepulta a Monarquia do Norte. Por ser membro destacado da elite militar afeta ao Partido Democrático (PRP), Maia Magalhães afigura-se como objeto de estudo que permite compreender as redes de influência e rutura entre o aparelho militar e os poderes políticos vigentes de 1916 a 1919.

    Biographical study of Maia Magalhães, that analyses his participation in the South Angolan Campaign and organization of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps during the First World War and his subsequent involvement in the military movement that crushes the Sidonist Regime and the northern Monarchist Uprising. As member of the military elite linked to the Democratic Party (PRP), Maia Magalhães stands as a study object that allow us to comprehend networks of influence between the military and the political powers from 1916 to 1919, in Portugal. As sources, we highlight his private correspondence with his family.
