Los traumas de mano son lesiones las cuales irrumpen con el funcionamiento normal de esta parte del cuerpo ya sea por una laceración, contusión, abrasión, herida simple o compleja. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo el cual caracterizó a 137 pacientes con trauma de mano en el Hospital Nacional de Jutiapa, Guatemala. Se observa un marcado predominio en el sexo masculino con un 73% de los casos. La ocupación más frecuente de los pacientes ingresados fue la de agricultor con un 55%, siendo la mano la principal herramienta de esta ocupación y una lesión de este tipo causa importante ausentismo laboral y secuelas incapacitantes que representa un impacto socio-económico para la región. La población mayor afectada fue la del rango de edad de 19-40 años con un 52%. El diagnóstico más frecuente es herida cortocontundente en dedo con un 22% y el mecanismo de lesión más frecuente fue herida por arma blanca con 39% de los casos.
Hand trauma is injury which breaks with the normal functioning of this part of the body either by a laceration, contusion, abrasion, simple or complex wound. A retrospective descriptive study was conducted which characterized 137 patients with hand trauma in the National Hospital of Jutiapa, Guatemala. A marked predominance was observed in males with 73% of cases. The most frequent occupation of hospitalized patients was that of farmer with 55%, with the hand being the main tool of this occupation and an injury of this type causes significant absenteeism and incapacitatingsequels that represent a socio-economic impact for the region. The largest affected population was the age range of 19-40 years with 52%. The most frequent diagnosis is a short-incision wound in the finger with 22% and the most frequent injury mechanism was wound with a knife with 39% of the cases.
