This paper pursues a double purpose. The first objective shows the general characteristics of the abductive reasoning in order to explain both, similarities and differences, with the deductive and inductive ones. The second objective shows the potential applications of this kind of reasoning in the field of Legal Practice in order to suggest that, to achieve the desired results on this matter, the way forward should be the integration of basically four types of inferences: deductive, inductive, abductive and analogical.
