    The study of preventive conservation of stucco ceiling coverings aims to assure their preservation and identification.It intends to examine the technological procedures used to assembly this sort of coverings and the need to delimitatethe theoretical context of the beginnings of such art. Concerning the nineteenth-century plasterers, the intention wasto compare their woks and analyze the influence of each one of them. This paper, after a short introduction, provides ahistorical survey of the stucco artworks in Rio de Janeiro. Following to that, the most significant examples of plasteringcoatings in that town are studieD. Finally, it offers some final considerations about all investigated subjects.

    O estudo da conservação preventiva dos forros de estuque tem o objetivo de garantir a sua preservação eidentificação. Ele pretende implementar a investigação dos procedimentos tecnológicos utilizados na confecção desseselementos decorativos e a necessidade de contextualização dos primórdios dessa arte. No caso dos estucadoresoitocentistas, a intenção foi realizar um estudo comparativo de seus trabalhos e analisar a influência de cada um. Estetrabalho, após uma breve introdução, apresenta um levantamento histórico do Estuque no Rio de Janeiro. A seguir,são estudados os exemplos mais significativos de forros de estuque na cidade. Finalmente, são elaboradas algumasconsiderações finais sobre os assuntos investigados.
