The purpose of this paper is to propose an inferentialist account of metaphor talk. In order to do so, it will be suggested that the inferential relations governing the use of expressions may be context sensitive. In particular, the substitutional inferences that determine the semantic role of sub-sentential expressions would behave in a different way in metaphorical and literal uses of the expression.
