  Carlos Gurumendi es un periodista ecuatoriano. Mientras relata ante sus televidentes el lúgubre panorama por las innumerables muertes a causa de la COVID-19 en Guayaquil, se derrumba. El nudo en la garganta le impide continuar y, en medio de las lágrimas, renuncia a la noticia. ¡En su rostro se refleja el dolor de una ciudad en la que no paran de doblar las campanas! ¿Informar o no informar sobre el dolor? Para el profesor e investigador de la Universidad del Rosario Germán Ortiz es ineludible enfrentarse a situaciones dolorosas en el ejercicio del periodismo, el reto está en cómo abordarlas sin profanar aquel espacio privado de las emociones, que le corresponde solo a quien las carga sobre los hombros.

  Carlos Gurumendi is an Ecuadorian journalist. As he recounts to his viewers the grim picture due to the countless deaths from COVID-19 in Guayaquil, he collapses. The lump in the throat prevents him from continuing, and in tears, he gives out the news. On his face, the pain of a city is reflected wherein bells do not stop tolling! The question is, then, that of whether to report pain or not. For Germán Ortiz, professor and researcher at Universidad del Rosario, facing painful situations while exercising journalism is inescapable; the challenge lies in how to approach them without profaning that private space of emotion, which corresponds only to the one who carries those emotions on their shoulders.
