    En su reciente libro La ciudad latinoamericana, Adrián Gorelik reconstruye las ideas, figuras e instituciones, entre las décadas del cuarenta y del setenta del siglo XX, donde el pensamiento sobre la ciudad y en específico el tema de la vivienda y la marginalidad tuvieron un lugar protagónico, tanto en los debates académicos, las agendas estatales y de cooperación internacional, como en los movimientos sociales. La propuesta de este artículo se incluye en este contexto y busca explorar las contribuciones del arquitecto británico John F. C. Turner al debate sobre la cultura y estética popular. Para ello, analizaremos algunos de sus escritos, iniciando con el número organizado para la revista Architectural Design (1963), pasando por el libro Housing by People. Towards Autonomy in Building Environments (1976) hasta llegar al artículo «Housing in Three Dimensions: Terms of Reference for the Housing Question Redefined» (1978).

    In his recent book La ciudad latinoamericana, Adrián Gorelik reconstructs the ideas, figures and institutions, between the 1940s and 1970s, where thinking about the city and specifically the question about housing and marginality had a leading role, both in academic debates, state and international cooperation agendas, as well as in social movements. The proposal of this article is included in this context and seeks to explore the contributions of the British architect John F. C. Turner to the debate on culture and popular aesthetics. To do this, we will analyze some of his writings, starting with the number organized for the Architectural Design magazine (1963), passing through the book Housing by people. Towards Autonomy in Building Environments (1976) up to the article Housing in Three Dimensions: Terms of Reference for the Housing Question Redefined (1978).
