    L’article interroge la scripturalité des groupes d’experts maritimes (officiers de marine, pilotes et capitaines français) et examine dans quelle mesure les documents liés à ces professionnels peuvent être classés comme documents institutionnels ou comme égo-documents. On montrera que ces écrits – qui ont tout d’abord servi d’outils nautiques, juridiques et administratifs – constituent un genre de texte très hétérogène et révèlent un haut degré de flexibilité s’adaptant avec souplesse aux circonstances du contexte de l’écriture et aux motifs des scripteurs. À titre d’exemple, on procèdera à l’analyse pragmatico-textuelle d’un journal intégré dans une lettre (lettre-journal), afin d’inscrire cette contribution dans la lignée des recherches récentes en sociolinguistique historique mettant l’accent sur l’hybridité et la flexibilité structurelles et stylistiques dans différents contextes d’écriture.

    This article examines the writing culture of maritime expert groups (French naval officers, pilots, and captains) and investigates the extent to which the documents linked to these professionals combine elements of institutional writing and ego-documents. This study shows that these texts – which served primarily as nautical, legal, and administrative tools – constitute a highly heterogeneous genre marked by a significant degree of flexibility, as the forms could be adapted to the contexts of the circumstances in which they were written and to the writers’ motives. On the basis of an exemplary analysis of a letter-journal on the textual-pragmatic level, this contribution follows more recent research approaches in historical sociolinguistics in emphasizing structural and stylistic hybridity and flexibility in different writing contexts.
