Se trata de una breve aproximación al fenómeno de la recepción clásica asociada a las reformas sociales y las políticas progresistas en los siglos xix y xx. Al mismo tiempo, se procede a una presentación de los artículos que conforman el dosier "Antigüedad, progreso y reforma sociales (siglos xix y xx)". En esta introducción se recogen algunas obras recientes sobre el tema en general y se señalan algunos rasgos específicos presentes en el caso español, como el anticlericalismo o la defensa de los derechos de las mujeres.

this paper is a brief survey on the field of classical reception related to the social reforms and the progressive politics in the 19th and 20th centuries and, at the same time, a presentation of the papers which make up the dossier on «antiquity, Progress and social reform (19-20th centuries)». the paper mentions some of the latest works on the topic in general, and underlines specific issues which appear in spanish history, like anti-clericalism and the defence of women’s rights.
