La más ardua tarea de la naciente diplomacia de la República de Colombia fue el establecimiento de relaciones oficiales con Francia, en razón no solo del pacto de familia que ligaba a los borbones de las cortes de París y Madrid, sino también de los recelos que despertaba el sistema republicano en los gabinetes de Luis xviii y Carlos x. Con el fin de agilizar el reconocimiento, el gobierno de Bogotá se sirvió de numerosos agentes oficiales y oficiosos, de cuyas gestiones y experiencias se ocupa este artículo.

The hardest task of the Republic of Colombia’s incipient diplomacy was the founding of official relations with France, due not only to the extant family pact that linked the Bourbons of the courts of Paris and Madrid, but also to the distrust inspired by the republican system in the cabinets of Louis XVIII and Charles X. In order to obtain a faster recognition of their political status by France, Bogota’s government used several official and officious agents, whose experiences are the object of this article.
