A new fauna of late Cretaceus non-marine Ostracoda from the Deccan intertrappean beds of Lakshmipur, Kachchh (Kutch) district, Gujarat, Western India

    Se recogieron varios miles de ejemplares de ostrácodos en muestras de arcillas procedentes del Maastrichtiense de Lakshmipur, Kachchh, India. Se identificaron 17 especies y subespecies pertenecientes a 12 géneros. Entre ellos 13 especies y subespecies son nuevas: Limnocythere falsocarinata sp. nov., Frambocythere tumiensis lakshmiae subsp. nov., Gomphocythere gomphiomatos sp. nov., Pseudocypris ectopos sp. nov., Centrocypris megalopos sp. nov., Zonocypris spiralis sp. nov., Paracandona firmamentum sp. nov., Cypria cyrtonidium sp. nov., Cyprois rostellum sp. nov. Cypridopsis wynnei sp. nov., Cypridopsis hyperectyphos sp. nov., Eucypris pelasgicos sp. nov. y Eucypris intervolcanus sp. nov. Otras tres especies, Gomphocythere sp. Cyprois sp. y Cypridopsis sp. 1 se han dejado en nomenclatura abierta debido al escaso material registrado. Mongolianella cylindrica (Sowerby, 1840) nov. comb. es la única especie que había sido descrita previamente. Se demuestra que esta asociación no está relacionada con faunas contemporáneas de Mongolia y China, como fue propuesto para otras faunas intertrappeanas de ostrácodos

    Many thousands of specimens of nonmarine ostracods were recovered from intertrappean shale horizons of Maastrichtian age at Lakshmipur, Kachchh (Kutch), India. Seventeen species and subspecies, belonging to 12 genera were recovered. No less than 13 species and subspecies are new. These are: Limnocythere falsocarinata sp. nov., Frambocythere tumiensis lakshmiae subsp. nov., Gomphocythere gomphiomatos sp. nov., Pseudocypris ectopos sp. nov., Centrocypris megalopos sp. nov., Zonocypris spiralis sp. nov., Paracandona firmamentum sp. nov., Cypria cyrtonidium sp. nov., Cyprois rostellum sp. nov., Cypridopsis wynnei sp. nov., Cypridopsis hyperectyphos sp. nov, Eucypris pelasgicos sp. nov., and Eucypris intervolcanus sp. nov. Three species, Gomphocythere sp., Cyprois sp., and Cypridopsis sp.1. are left in open nomenclature due to paucity of material. Mongolianella cylindrica (Sowerby, 1840) nov. comb. is the only previously described species. This fauna is shown not to be closely related to contemporary nonmarine ostracod faunas from Mongolia and China, a relationship claimed for other intertrappean faunas
