  • Resumen
    • The context of Mediterranean migration routes to Europe has been partly modified by the Syrian diaspora and one of the consequences has been the reopening of the ‘Egyptian route’ to Italy. This chapter provides an analysis of the departure context determined by the socio-political changes that occurred in Egypt after 2011 and examines the main features of the Italian arrival context, which is characterized by an insufficient emergency-based reception system for refugees and unaccompanied minors. It also presents a sea-crossing ethnography by looking at the specific conditions affecting the Egyptian sea route to Italy, including the most important socio-political factors that have caused the Egyptian route to reopen, the main characteristics of the route and the primary features of the Italian reception system.
