The Seixival mountain range, also known as O Seixo, is placed in the north area of the Council of Gomesende (Ourense). Its current situation of depopulation and desertion may allow one to assume it always was an irrelevant place from a historical point of view. Notwithstanding, this essay revisits the history of this area, from the prehistory up to the 20 century, in order to hightlight the importance of many historical events which took place in the Seixival and which have been forgotten nowadays.
In addition to historical facts, cultural and social issues as well as other singularities are also compiled so as to provide a general overview about the inhabitants’ traditions and daily live in an attempt to save this ethnographic information from the depopulation and abandonment which hits the rural areas of Ourense
