    El presente trabajo analiza las ideas e intencionalidades, prácticas y metafóricas, del león como símbolo regio en las iglesias yucatecas del siglo XVIII. Las representaciones plásticas de este animal son la fuente principal y proponemos que en ellas se esconden, a través de elementos visuales inteligibles en su época, discursos variopintos que reflejan las pugnas y acuerdos realizados entre las jurisdicciones religiosa y Real. El poder del rey, su Regio Patronato y los intereses del clero yucateco se proyectan a través de estas imágenes, en una época de consolidación diocesana, de construcción material, pero también de crisis entre las jurisdicciones.

    This work analyzes the ideas and intentions, practical and metaphorical, of the lion as a royal symbol in the 18th century Yucatecan churches. The plastic representations of this animal are the main source. We propose that they hide, through visual elements intelligible at the time, various speeches that reflect the struggles and agreements made between the religious and royal jurisdictions. The power of the king, his Regio Patronato and the interests of the Yucatecan clergy are projected through these images, in a time of diocesan consolidation, of material construction, but also of crisis between jurisdictions.
