    The work addresses the Community Based Tourism (TBC) segment, in the experience of Serra Grande, district of Uruçuca-BA. The TBC has the perspective of providing a sustainable tourism segment in the various aspects of the economic, social, environmental and cultural dimensions. Therefore, the objective is to identify the main difficulties and opportunities of TBC. In this sense, the research allowed the characterization of this segment, based on its main aspects, giving rise to reflections and findings relevant to the study in question. It offers a brief contextualization of TBC and problematization of the difficulties listed by the interviewed subjects. Bibliographic survey, semi-structured interviews with TBC service providers, document analysis, and application of a questionnaire to visitors/tourists were the main techniques used as part of the methods strategy. The results point to a situation of low knowledge about the TBC tourist segment in Serra Grande on the part of visitors/tourists, as well as to a set of potentialities not yet made possible by TBC promoters in the región.

    O trabalho aborda o segmento Turismo de Base Comunitária (TBC), na experiência de Serra Grande, distrito de Uruçuca-BA. O TBC tem como perspectiva proporcionar um segmento turístico sustentável nos diversos aspectos das dimensões econômica, social, ambiental e cultural. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa permitiu a caracterização deste segmento, a partir de seus principais aspectos, dando origem as reflexões e descobertas pertinentes ao estudo em questão. Oferece uma breve contextualização sobre o TBC e problematização das dificuldades elencadas pelos sujeitos entrevistados. Levantamento bibliográfico, entrevistas semiestruturadas junto aos prestadores de serviços do TBC, análise documental, e aplicação de questionário junto aos visitantes/turistas, foram as principais técnicas utilizadas como parte das estratégia de métodos. Os resultados apontam para uma situação de baixo conhecimento sobre o segmento turístico TBC em Serra Grande por parte dos visitantes/turistas, bem como para um conjunto de potencialidades ainda não viabilizadas pelos promotores do TBC na região
