The Ostracoda from Lee Point on Shoal Bay, Northern Australia: Part 2 – Podocopina (Bairdiacea and Cypridacea)

  • Bairdiacean Ostracoda from Recent littoral environments within Shoal Bay, Northern Territory, Australia contain a high relative abundance of Papillatabairdia species. Although many of these species have undergone post-mortem transportation, the high diversity of species belonging to this genus reflects the strongly endemic nature of many Australian shallow marine ostracod faunas. The cypridacean Ostracoda are dominated by a species of the genus Phlyctenophora Brady, 1880. Twenty bairdiacean and eight cypridacean species are described and illustrated from the beach and inter-tidal sediment samples collected at Lee Point within Shoal Bay, approximately 15 kilometres northeast of Darwin. The new species described are Neonesidea darwinensis, N. minutopunctata, Paranesidea? elongata and Papillatabairdia lunula.
