Os monárquicos e o estado novo de salazar

    The question of the régime was, during almost all the period of Salazar's "New State», one of its most important internal political cleavages. The monarchists, who can be considered as one of the "factions» of Salazarism, even had the exclusive privilege of organizing themselves autonomously, apart from the "National Union», in the "Monarchist Cause». Therefore, the analysis of the monarchist's official behaviour, namely the gauging of the degree of the autonomy of action towards the government, is fundamental in order to establish the degree of accomplished political monism or of internal pluralism tolerated by the «New State».

    The relations between the «Monarchist Cause» and the «New State» weren't always easy or clearly identificable. The tension reached nearly breaking point, and there were moments when the monarchists in the ranks of the Cause, almost became an "internal opposition». After the initial expectation, the monarchists adopted a strategy of progressive insinuation near the power centre. But when this strategy failed, it turned into an internal confrontation that only the overseas question prevented from leading to the end of the traditional colaterism in the last years of the régime.

    La «question du regime» a été, pendant presque toute la durée de l'«État Nouveau» de Salazar, un de ses plus importants clivages politiques intérieurs. Les monarchistes, qui peuvent être justement considérés comme une des «factions» du salazarisme, ont même disposé du privilege exclusif d'une organisation autonome, au delà de l'Union Nationale: la Cause Monarchiste. L'analyse du comportement oficiei des monarchistes, nottament de l'autonomie d'intervention face au gouvemement, devient done indispensable a la definition du dégré de monisme ou pluralisme politiques intérieurs à l' «État Nouveau».

    Les rapports de la Cause Monarchiste avec l'«État Nouveau» n'ont pas été toujours faciles ni de simples identification. La tension est presque devenue rupture, à un moment donné, et les monarchistes de la Cause ont été pres d'une «oposition interne». Partis d'une attente initiale, iis adopteront une stratégie de progressive insinuation auprés du pouvoir. La faillite de cette stratégie a donné lieu à un affrontement, que seulement la question de l'outremer a empeché d'aboutir à l'interruption du colatéralisme traditionel, dans les demiêres années du regime.
