El absceso periamigdalino es una infección caracterizada por la formación de material purulento entre la amígdala y la cápsula amigdalina. La mayor incidencia se encuentra entre los 3 y 18 años, predominando en el sexo femenino. Se ha demostrado que un diagnóstico temprano junto a un tratamiento efectivo evita la aparición de complicaciones.

Peritonsillar abscess is an infection characterized by the formation of purulent material between the tonsil and the tonsillar capsule. The highest incidence is found between 3 and 18 years of age, predominantly in the female sex.
It has been shown that an early diagnosis together with an effective treatment prevent the appearance of complications.
