    Las heridas crónicas y especialmente las úlceras por presión suponen un problema de salud ya que pueden conllevar importantes consecuencias para el paciente como son infecciones generalizadas (sepsis) y amputaciones, por su larga evolución y las molestias que ocasionan en la calidad de vida de quienes las padecen. Sin olvidar los importantes costos económicos que representan, principalmente en recursos humanos, además de otras variables como el material de curas y el incremento de la duración de las estancias hospitalarias (hasta dos días más de ingreso en los pacientes con úlceras por presión que los que no las tienen). Por todo esto, resurge entre el conocimiento científico actual la terapia larval como alternativa a las curas tradicionales.

    Chronic wounds, and especially pressure ulcers, are a health problem since they can have important consequences for the patient, such as generalized infections (sepsis) and amputations, due to their long evolution and the inconvenience they cause in the quality of life of those who they suffer from them. Without forgetting the important economic costs that they represent, mainly in human resources, in addition to other variables such as dressing material and the increase in the length of hospital stays (up to two more days of admission in patients with pressure ulcers than those with they don’t have them). For all this, larval therapy reappears among current scientific knowledge as an alternative to traditional cures.
