    Un embarazo de alto riesgo es un embarazo que pone en riesgo la salud y la vida de la madre o del feto. Requiere atención especializada tanto a la madre como al feto. Algunos embarazos se vuelven de alto riesgo a medida que progresan, mientras que algunas mujeres tienen mayor riesgo de tener complicaciones incluso antes de quedar embarazadas, por diversas razones. El embarazo se considera de alto riesgo si la paciente o él bebe tienen una mayor probabilidad de tener un problema de salud. La palabra alto riesgo podría causar a la embarazada, temor. La palabra alto riesgo puede ser, como el retraso de crecimiento, parto prematuro, problemas con la placenta. Pero no significa que los altos riesgos tengan problemas tanto para la embarazada como para el bebe. El embarazo de alto riesgo es la aparición de un riesgo obstétrico, fetal o materno en el comienzo del embarazo, durante el mismo o en el momento del parto. Este tipo de embarazo requiere de cuidados específicos y un mayor seguimiento.
