    Trying to escape one of the vices of the anthropological approach to artistic activities - to refuse a definition of its subject in its own terms, to pretend to understand it, a priori, after another connected paradigm in the social totality - this work deals with some of the reasons why this happens; reasons that may be internal to anthropology, and internal to the very nature of our own «art» concept. The text also proposes a working and analytical definition that includes: the operations which produce art objects and the social context of this construction; the art objects themselves considered in their opacity; the processes of reception; the uses and functions of art objects. Each of these components of artistic activity is also separately elaborated, using appropriate examples.

    En essayant de dépasser un des vices de l'étude anthropologique des activités artistiques celui de renoncer à définir son objet d'étude d'abord en lui--même, et prétendre l'expliquer a priori par un autre paradigme qui lui soit lié au sein de la totalité sociale -ce texte dévoile quelques raisons de ce phénomene; raisons internes à I' anthropologie mais aussi internes à la nature même de notre concept d' «art». II propose, ensuite, une défmition opératoire et analytique qui rend compte des opérations qui produisent les objets artistiques et du contexte social de cette construction, des objets eux-rnêmes dans leur opacité, des procês de sa réception, de ses usages et [onction. Tous ces composants de I'activité artistique sont élaborés séparément, avec des exemples appropriés.
