Resumen de Eocene calcareous nannofossils from Sile, (Northwest Turkey)

  • The calcareous nannofossil content of the marls and unconformably overlying argillaceous limestones from the Sile section, Istanbul, has been studied using both light and scanning electron microscopy. Zone NP12 of Early Eocene age and Zones NP14 to NP16 of Middle Eocene age are recognised in the marls and in the argillaceous limestones respectively.

    A total of one hundred and thirty-five species representing forty-five genera have been identified. Three new genera Cruxia, Girgisia and Jakubowskia, are described and illustrated together with nineteen new species including Anacanthoica mitra, Chiphragmalithus altinlii, Clausicoccus eroskayi, C. baykalii, C. foraminis, C. ongii, Cruxia atanii, C. mericii, Cyclicargolithus artuziae, Ellipsolithus anadoluensis. E. akartunai, Geminilithella okayi, Jakubowskia leoniae, Lophodolithus luntii, Scyphosphaera ollae, Toweius oztunalii, Trochoaster arbryae, Zygrhablithus sagittus and Z. sileensis described and illustrated. The following thirteen new combinations have been introduced: Blackites gladius, B. morionum, B. truncatus, Calcidiscus pacificanus, Coccolithus robustus, Geminilithella bramlettei, Girgisia gammation, Homozygosphaera biskayae, Jakubowskkia labrosa, Neochiastozygus pediculatus, N. rosenkrantzii, Rhabdosphaera pinguis and Zygrhablithus kerabyi.
