  Using a recent book by José Mattoso as a starting point, the author aims to show the methodologies underlying the most modern historiographic production, while subjecting them to criticism. At the core of the debate lyes the question of the systematicity and objectivity of historical knowledge and of the legitimacy and value of creating models in this field. The point of view which is expressed favours a historiographic discourse geared toward sistematization and the creation of models, not merely for theoretical reasons, but also due to considerations which have to do with the use of new representation and data-processing techniques in history.

  L'auteur prend comme point de départ une oeuvre récente des José Mattoso et éssaye de montrer les lignes méthodologiques sous-jacentes à la plus moderne production historiographique, en les soumettant à Ia critique. Au coeur du débat est le probléme de Ia systematicité et de l'objectivité de Ia connaissance historique et de la légitimité et virtualités de Ia construction de modéles dans ce domaine. Le point de vue ici exprimé se veut favorable à un discours historiographique dirigé vers la systématisation et la construction de modeles, pas seulement pour des raisons théoriques, mais aussi pour des considérations que tiennent à l'utilisation, dans l'histoire, de nouvelles téchnologies de représentation et traitement de I'information.
