  The aim of this article is to present a brief approach to the relations between the Portuguese Socialist Party and the Portuguese Communist Party, given the new documents found in the Archive of the Socialist Party, recently integrated in the IAN/TT (National Archives).

  In the context of the First Republic, the birth of the Communist Party was a new fact in the Portuguese political and social life. The relations between the two parties were marked by some cordiality, although there was distrust over any attempt by the communists to take the leadership of the whole left wing.

  The author gives special attention to the ways followed by communists and socialists in order to unite the left wing organisations in a common front and face the dangers, which threatened the Republic.

  Cette étude propose un bref éclairage sur les relations entre le Parti Socialiste Portugais et le Parti Communiste Portugais, à partir de la documentation des archives du Parti Socialiste incorporé à l'IAN/TT.

  Dans le contexte de la le République, la naissance du PCP a constitué une nouvelle donnée de la vie politique et sociale. Ses relations avec le PSP ont été marquées par une certaine cordialité, malgré la méfiance des socialistes face aux tentatives d'hégémonie sur la gauche portugaise. On s'intéresse plus particuliêrernent aux tentatives socialistes et communistes pour unir les organisations de gauche en un front unique, afin de faire face aux dangers qui menaçaient la République.

  Neste estudo pretende-se fazer uma breve abordagem sobre as relações entre o Partido Socialista Português e o Partido Comunista Português, à luz da documentação do Arqui vo do Partido Socialista integrado no IAN/TT.

  No contexto da 1ª República, o nascimento do PCP introduziu um novo dado na vida política e social. As suas relações com o PSP pautaram-se por uma certa cordialidade, apesar da desconfiança dos socialistas em relação às tentativas de hegemonia na esquerda portuguesa. Dáse especial relevo às tentativas socialistas e comunistas para unir as organizações da esquerda numa frente única, de modo a fazer face aos perigos que ameaçavam a República.
