This article analyzes the several crises which Europe is currently facing and that are threatening its main values, such as democracy, the protection of fundamental rights, the respect of the rule of law. Despite these are the main pillars of the European integration, within both the Council of Europe and the European Union, the current crises risks to weaken them. The most important aspects of this crises are: a) the institutional/political/legal deficit in some country; b) the economic crisis; c) the security concerns, particularly the threat of international terrorism; d) migration flaw trough the Mediterranean and the consequent difficulties to manage it. Thus the author stresses that the European organizations have to find the most effective strategies to react to these multifaceted crises so that they will not weaken the European values, particularly analyzing it from the perspective of the Council of Europe.
