A construção social de um bairro de lisboa: A vocação marítima da Bica através dos seus registos de baptismo e de nascimento (1886-1970)

    The paper explores the social and occupational background and the geographical origins of the population of Bica- a Lisbon neighbourhood with an ancient maritime vocation. Those two aspects play an important role in the production of a social network which shapes a specific way of life. Research was focused on the processing and interpretation of data collected from birth registration (civil and parochial) for the period 1886--1970. Some avenues of cultural analysis are suggested which correlate the occupational and geographical maritime background of a «typical» (and somewhat iconic) neighbourhood, with the identity construction of the city itself.

    Il s' agit d'une étude exploratoire, dont l'objectif est de concourir à la connaissance de la base socio-profissionnelle et l'origine geographique de la population d'un quartier de Lisbonne -Bica - avec une vieille tradition maritime. Ces deux aspects sont fondamentaux dans la production d'un tissu social spécifique et d'un modus vivendi particulier. Cet article s' appuit sur le dépouiellement des actes de baptême et de naissance, entre 1886 et 1970, et sur une interprétation des données ainsi elaborées, en suggérant quelques themes d'analyse culturelle que établissent un rapport entre le côté maritime de ce quartier «typique» et la construction identitaire de la ville de Lisbonne.
